All of the grapes in our four vineyards are in veraison now. That means that they are changing color from a milky green to a translucent yellow-green or to purple. More important, the amount of malic acid in the grape is dropping and the sugar is increasing. And the grapes are beginning to soften.

This means that the grapes are also becoming more attractive to birds. Stay tuned to learn what we are trying this season.

In the last few weeks before harvest, we are checking trellis wires and post staples to make sure that the vines stay in place as the fruit makes them heavier. We will be tying up vines where they are starting to come off the trellis. Mowing and spraying fungicide round out the tasks for this week.
