Last week’s weather made for challenging times in the vineyard. Temperatures were high enough only by Thursday to permit much work to be started. And, because the vineyard was still pretty wet, we couldn’t use any heavy equipment, so all work was done manually. So, this week, the vineyard crew will get the Marquette long pruning completed and the vines cleaned up. Then, they will move to the St. Croix and Frontenac at Meadowcreek and Newport Lane. They will be spraying herbicide at Maple Woods and also in the Marquette vineyard at Meadowcreek. Finally, they will start spraying the Sulfoix which is a stinky spray that is used to kill any fungus that overwintered on the trunks and main cordons of the vines.
