Bud-break_2376-350XWe have just finished long pruning with our new V-Mech pruning system and are now working hard to get our short pruning all done by early May. We are starting short pruning Edelweiss at Tassel Ridge and will move through other varieties as fast as we can.

Sap spills out of the newly pruned ends of the vines, especially on warm days. This tells us that the sap is flowing and that bud-break is just around the corner. In fact, we’ve seen bud-break in La Crescent, and in some Edelweiss and Marquette vines already and most of our vines have plump buds just about ready to break. We are now really exposed should the weather turn cold (28°F for four hours). So, we’ve got our fingers crossed that we won’t get a hard frost again this season.
