We are a little more than half way done with the planting of vines this season and are going to take a breather from planting early this week to spray herbicide and mow. If time permits, we are going to also finish pruning the Foch that got such a late start this year.

One of our vineyard consultants visited last week and looked at our Steuben vines. We are beginning to think that they had not shut down completely last fall when we got that really cold week in November. As a result, they are suffering from cold damage. We will be watching them this season to see if they pull out of their funk. If they don’t, we will be planting more Steuben replacements next year.

The Foch and Frontenac that had some exposure to herbicide drift are looking much better. Maybe they will grow out of their near miss!
