Although the start of harvest is 2–4 weeks in the future, we are already thinking about steps we must take to be ready. We are doing preventative maintenance on machinery and equipment right now.
We planted about 1,500 new vines this year and now is the time we remove the grow tubes and tie the new vines to pencil rods and when possible, to the top wire. Our goal is to get the vines up to the top wire by the end of their first season. The grow tubes are no longer providing much protection to the vines because they have already grown well above the tops of the tubes. Also, we want the vines to harden-off so that they will withstand the first hard frost when it comes this fall.
We will be spraying fungicide on vines that need some attention.
We have grapes that are excess to our needs and we will looking for wineries that need them.
