Tassel Ridge Winery is seeking an experienced, quality-minded, results-driven Cellar Technician for our Leighton, IA winery. Hours will vary, including weekends, early mornings, &/or late nights as dictated by the season & cellar activities.

The following are required: the ability to lift 40 lbs, possess a clean driving record, hold a current CDL or have the ability to obtain within 90 days, & be 21 years of age or older. Qualified candidates will possess a minimum of a 2 year degree in a science based program, preferably related to food or life sciences.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Perform all crush pad/cellar operations: weighing grapes, forklift, press, destemmer crusher, pump over’s, racking, filtering, bottling
  • Maintain all cellar/crush pad equipment
  • Perform all sanitation operation in cellar/crush pad
  • Maintain a safe workplace in the cellar
  • Actively support the development and operation of ISO 9000 quality system
  • Assure compliance with all federal, state & local regulations regarding wine production, safety, record-keeping & reporting
  • Support winery goals and objectives as outlined by winery owner and specifically support other functions in the Winery as needed
  • Train others in cellar & crush pad operations, maintenance, safety & sanitation
  • Is committed to working varying hours, including weekends, early mornings, and/or late nights as dictated by the season and cellar activities
  • Participates in a program of continual learning and skill development
  • Effectively communicates and participates as a part of the Winery Team which includes regular attendance at the monthly team meeting

How hiring Tasting Room Coordinator

This is a full-time position, Monday–Friday, 9:00 a.m.–6:00 p.m.

Performance Expectations:

  • Champions and executes the winery’s strategic sales philosophy by delighting customers through tours, wine education, and wine tasting activities that result in customer satisfaction and wine sales.
  • Acquires a thorough knowledge of the winery and its wines in order to answer a wide range of questions about grape growing, wine making, and wine in general.
  • Professionally handles all phone calls and mail handling.
  • Responsible for posting to social media outlets to complement other marketing directives.
  • Ensures wine and gift shop items are restocked in an accurate and timely manner, and performs inventory cycle counts as required.
  • Politely, accurately and efficiently handles gift shop transactions.
  • Assists with invoicing, hand-writes, and making wholesale deposits.
  • Assists with food preparation and service during lunch hours
  • Effectively communicates and participates as a part of the Winery Team which includes regular attendance at the mandatory monthly team meeting.
  • Represents the winery with a professional appearance and demeanor.
  • Participates in a program of continual learning and skill development.
  • Supports the team’s ISO 9001 compliance effort and actively participates in the Company’s continuous quality improvement program.
  • Performs additional duties as deemed appropriate by the Tasting Room Manager.

Qualified candidates will possess:

  • Proven job history and good tenure at previous employers
  • Strong interpersonal, written and oral communication skills.
  • Experience in a hospitality or retail service environment.
  • Experience in accounting or bookkeeping

Now hiring Part-Time Tasting Room Staff!

Tassel Ridge Winery is seeking local vibrant, enthusiastic individuals who are passionate about wine and have flexible schedules, including: week days, special events and weekends in our Tasting Room.

The ideal candidates will be comfortable conducting detailed group tours for guests and can understand the value and importance of creating personal customer relationships.  Primary responsibilities include enlightening our customers about our wine; conducting wine tastings that entertain, educate, and delight; and performing gift shop transactions.

Position starts at $10/hour and increases to $12/hour once training is complete.

Attributes that are needed to perform these responsibilities include:

  • An interest in wine and a desire to learn about wine by tasting and consuming it with meals
  • Strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills
  • An ability to effectively communicate with a diverse customer base
  • Team-oriented with the ability to work in an environment that requires flexibility
  • Ability to work special evening events
  • A professional demeanor and appearance
  • Computer knowledge
  • Previous restaurant, waitress/waiter, food prep experience

Now hiring for a Sales Representative to join the Tassel Ridge Winery Sales Team!

Our Sales Reps begin and end each day at Tassel Ridge Winery, with the possible exception of one or two overnight stays each week. The ability to lift 40 pounds and possess a clean driving record is required. Applicants must be at least 21 years of age.

As a Tassel Ridge Winery Sales Representative, your responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Achieving retail sales distribution goals by developing and managing a network of retailers and restaurants that actively sell Tassel Ridge wines.
  • Continuously identify, contact and recruit new retailers and restaurants
  • Maximize sales opportunities by servicing and providing retailers and restaurants with the necessary knowledge and tools required to properly distribute Tassel Ridge wines, including:
    • Planning, designing and conducting educational product presentations
    • Providing wait and sales staff with presentation training
    • Conducting tasting events (which may require weekends)
    • Providing promotional support including point-of-sale materials
  • Manage active accounts by making weekly or more frequent calls, monitoring inventory turns, ensuring current vintage and delivering orders
  • Gather information about competitors’ activities in selling to retail and restaurant accounts, including successes and failures, and reports information back to Owner
  • Assisting with promotional events at the winery
  • Develops detailed written procedures and training aids for all activities
  • Networks in the community and develops partnerships in an effort to achieve the winery’s strategic goals
  • Investigates and resolves retailers and restaurant’s complaints
  • Is committed to working weekends and evenings as necessary
  • Ensures activities follow and comply with ABD (Alcoholic Beverage Division) and other related regulations
  • Participates in a program of continual learning and skill development
  • Effectively communicates and participates as a part of the Winery Team which includes regular attendance at the monthly team meeting

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • Strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent presentation skills
  • Experience assessing customer wants and preferences and modifying a service delivery system to respond to the customer

This position will work 6–8 wine-tasting events per month.  Events take place in the late afternoon or early evening on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays. The successful candidate will demonstrate a passion for wine and a desire to converse with patrons about our wine. We will provide full training so that our Ambassadors can represent the winery at promotional and wine-tasting events, and knowledgeably converse with attendees about the winery and its wines.
