This week, we will finish tying Sabrevois and St. Croix and removing suckers. We will finish hedging the Marquette in Meadowcreek West and work on the Marquette trellis. Mowing never seems to go away. We will be spraying some herbicide at Tassel Ridge and at Meadowcreek. And, we have some new vines at Maple Woods whose trunks need to be tied to the pencil rod and whose arms need to be tied to the top wire.
Finally, we face major pressure from birds that show up just about the time the grapes start to sweeten right before harvest. We can install nets but that is very labor intensive. Last year, we had success with kites that look and behave like hawks and really seem to spook the birds that damage the crop. We will add two hawk kites to our supply this year.
