Cold, rainy weather has prevented us from doing much pruning this month. One good outcome of this weather is that our vines are still dormant and have not begun to awaken from their winter’s sleep. That means that a late frost is less likely to damage buds. But, we have about six weeks to May 11, which is our 90% frost free date with a lot of pruning yet to finish.
We have been pruning at Meadowcreek and after pruning our big Marquette vineyard, moved on to LaCrosse and St. Croix. We also finished St. Croix, Frontenac, St. Pepin, and Brianna at Newport Lane, and now we are pruning at Tassel Ridge Vineyard. This is our biggest vineyard and it will take some time.
