We are adding about 450 Foch vines to our vineyard this year so that we can become self-reliant on our own vines for Foch production. Foch is used in making Iowa Nouveau and Iowa Harvest Red. We have identified where in our Meadowcreek Vineyard they will be planted but now we need to get the ground ready without removing the trellis wires or posts.

We have purchased 200 L’Acadie Blanc vines and now have to determine where they will be planted and what we will remove to make a place for them. The L’Acadie Blanc makes a white wine and the grape variety is prized for its cold tolerance (it comes from Nova Scotia) and its flavors and productivity. We are looking at using the juice from this grape for blending purposes. We probably will not make a varietal wine from the L’Acadie Blanc. The new vines will arrive in early June which is past the potential last hard frost dates.

We are continuing to prune and remove tall weeds from the vineyard.
