We didn’t make much progress working in our vineyards last week. Severe weather was the problem. We have been working indoors on equipment to make sure it is ready for prime time. In the process, we discovered that some equipment had not been serviced for 3–4 years. So, in addition to all of the tractors, we are servicing all of our Gators and the electrically operated pruners we use for final pruning.
We are also organizing our storage room for herbicides, fungicides, and insecticides and are making sure that everything is not only labelled but also dated. We will assemble 200 grow tubes for use on new vines we will plant in June.
We will clean up the rows where we will plant 400 new Foch and 200 L’Acadie Blanc vines when they arrive in June. This is a bit challenging because we want to keep all the posts and trellis wires in place.
If weather permits, we will start hand pruning Marquette.
