Although we got off to a slow start, we are now making good progress with several aspects of pruning and vineyard maintenance. We have now mechanically-pruned all of the Brianna vines and are about 1/3 of the way through the Edelweiss vines at Tassel Ridge. We have 17 acres of Edelweiss at Tassel Ridge so we won’t finish tomorrow!
We have also mowed under the Marquette vines but we still have some weed-eating to do in order to have this task done. We also fixed all of the broken trellis wires in the Marquette vineyard at Meadowcreek Vineyard.
Equipment repair is a never-ending task and this week, the underwire mower needed attention so we rebuilt it. And, we are building an underwire vineyard floor sprayer and are making good progress on it. We will use that immediately once it is finished.
Next week, we will continue with mechanical pruning of Edelweiss at Tassel Ridge. We expect to have a new vineyard worker starting late this week. He will help us pick up the pace of work in the vineyard. We will try to get our vineyard floor sprayer running and then will get to work putting down herbicide especially in the area where we will plant the new Foch and L’Acadie Blanc vines in June.
