While high winds and rain last week did not permit vineyard work on some days, problems with the chiller at our warehouse and with the tractor we use for mowing prevented us from focusing on vineyard tasks. We did get some hand-pruning done and we pulled out canes cut but not removed during mechanical pruning. We also fixed some broken wires in our La Crescent block. But, we didn’t get any spraying done.

This week, we pruned our Newport Lane vineyard, sprayed herbicide in the rows where we will plant Foch and L’Acadie Blanc in June, and sprayed fungicide in our vineyards. We finished hand-pruning our small Meadowcreek East vineyard and mowed everything we could. We also continued hand-pruning where we have already mechanically pruned and are continuing to pull trees at Meadowcreek Vineyard. With almost wind-free days, we are able to start spraying fungicide and are making good progress.

The vines are soaking up the warm weather and are continuing to leaf-out.
