We are regularly asked how our grapevines are dealing with the very hot weather we’ve had recently. The short answer is “quite well.” Actually, most plants will handle air temperatures up to about 95°F but above 95°F, they begin to shut down and stop photosynthesis. In some respects, they are smarter than humans! By early morning when temperatures are at the daytime low, they are back at work turning sunlight into carbohydrates.
We appear to have a better than average crop this year. Berry sizes seem bigger on most varieties than usual and the vines appear very robust. So far, so good!
