Last week, the vineyard team worked on tying up vines and removing suckers. Suckers are vine shoots that come up annually from the roots. They also completed repairs on broken posts and on mowing between the rows at the Maple Woods Vineyard.

This week, we sprayed for Japanese beetles. The beetles will work on a leaf and eat everything but the major veins and edges of the leaf. It looks like fine lace when they are done but it won’t help the grape ripen. We also fertilized the newly planted vines again and got harvest equipment serviced and ready for harvest. And, we continued to work on trellis wires.
