Last week, we used a skid loader to remove trees and shrubs at Maple Woods and got all vineyards mowed. We also removed vines that grow up our trellis posts at Maple Woods. This is very time-consuming because these vines grow quickly and literally cover the posts. We think that this vine is a Virginia Creeper but that is subject to verification.
As soon as the vineyards dry out a bit, we will spray with fungicides and a foliar fertilizer. This is the first year that we are using foliar fertilizer and we hope to stimulate growth of some vines that are struggling. When we finish up pulling trees and shrubs at Maple Woods, we will have the skid loader moved to Tassel Ridge where a lot more trees await us.
Next week, we will replace some broken end posts at both Newport Lane and at Tassel Ridge vineyards.
