Summer is here and it is definitely grilling season. Tassel Ridge Winery offers seven different dry red wines that will complement the meats you grill.
A big steak like a rib-eye calls for a big, flavorful wine. Four Tassel Ridge wines merit your consideration:
- The brand new 2021 Iowa Frontenac is our newest and biggest dry red wine. It was aged in American oak barrels for 11 months and the first earthy taste impressions come from the oak. They are followed by dark fruits like plum and black cherry. This is an excellent wine with a rib-eye.
- The 2021 Iowa Sabrevois opens with bold aromas of spices and leather on the nose followed by blackberry and plum notes, baking spice, smoke, and licorice. This wine was also aged in American oak barrels. This wine will complement steaks and grilled, seasoned chicken.
- The 2021 Petite Pearl has a lightly acidic entry transitioning to dark fruit and a long drying finish. This wine is excellent with grilled meat or pasta with a tomato-based sauce.
- The 2020 Iowa Marquette has a fresh, lightly acidic entry transitioning to raspberry and black cherry and a medium-long finish. This wine is excellent with grilled beef, chicken, or pasta.
Lighter dry red wines are perfect with filets, sirloins, burgers, and grilled, seasoned pork or chicken. We recommend three Tassel Ridge wines for the menu items.
- Iowa In the Dark is a light bodied dry red wine opening with a tangy acid followed by black cherry fading to plum and finishing with a drying mid-palate. This wine is a good choice to pair with lean beef, burgers, and grilled seasoned pork or chicken
- 2021 Iowa Harvest Red is a light bodied wine with plum and black cherry aromas and notes on the palate. It is nicely acidic followed by a long and complex finish. This wine will complement lean beef, burgers, and grilled seasoned pork or chicken.
- Iowa Pizzeria & Pasta, Too!® has cherry on the nose and palate with blackberry and toasted caramel on the finish. This wine will complement lean beef, burgers, and seasoned pork or chicken. It is outstanding with both pizza and pastas.
All of the grapes used in these wines were grown in Iowa.
