The vineyard crew are cleaning Macrobins into which we will harvest the grapes. They are also cleaning the harvester which has now been fixed and is otherwise ready for harvest. We are having the local Deere dealer work on the tractor that will haul the cart containing the Macrobins. The vineyard crew collected grape samples which will be tested by Iowa State University for yeast assimilable Nitrogen (YAN). The results of this test will tell us how much yeast nutrient we will need to add to the fermenting grapes in order to assure that the fermentation runs through to completion. Finally, last week, the vineyard crew got the bird kites up in the interests of protecting the vines from bird predation.
