The warming weather and the long-range forecast for warmer than usual weather for the next six weeks means that we will begin machine pruning very soon. We need at least two people and preferably three people to machine prune. We will prune one day and spray Spur Shield® the next day. Spur Shield will seal the pruning wound so that trunk diseases won’t get into the trunk through the wound. We will also be spraying Sulforix®, a fungicide that will kill any fungi that have overwintered in the cracks in the vine trunks.
We are continuing equipment repairs with a new fuel line for one of our tractors and are getting a pickup that needs a new door cleaned out so it can be worked on. And finally, we are continuing work on developing a new two-row fertilizer spreader. This equipment doesn’t exist on the market so we are trying to develop our own.
We are starting interviews for seasonal vineyard workers this week.
