The vineyard crew is making progress replacing posts in the Meadowcreek Vineyard. They are now working in the south part of the Marquette vineyard. The line posts in the north and middle vineyards are done. They replaced 43 posts this week and have 23 more posts to replace. They will also rebuild several H-braces at the end of the rows.
Our new vineyard manager, Jess Manly, will be getting his applicator certification so he can spray chemicals including herbicides, insecticides, and fungicides.
We will be getting weed eaters inspected, repaired, or replaced depending on the outcome of the inspection.
Finally, what do the vineyards look like? The cold nights over the past two weeks and the killing frost early last week were enough to tell the vines that it is time to go to sleep for the winter. The photo here is of a LaCrosse vine at Maple Woods Vineyard that is now dormant and is waiting for a stiff wind to blow the remaining leaves off. Also, the ground is very dry. The grass crunched under my feet as I was walking through the vineyard this afternoon.
