This year has been unlike any previous year in that grapes were slow to develop and then very slow to increase sugar content. We are testing daily and are ready to harvest but the grapes are not ready. Normally, we would have started with Brianna by August 15 and followed up with Edelweiss. Now, it looks like it may be another week or two before they are ready.
In addition, the amount of fruit this year is lower than previous years. We will have enough for our needs but have not made any attempts to sell grapes that we don’t need.
In the meantime, we have gotten Meadowcreek East all cleaned up by weed eating under the vines. It really looks nice. We are also paying close attention to the newly planted Foch vines to keep the deer from eating the tips of the vines. We continue mowing and will spray a fungicide as soon as we can.
Otherwise, it is wait and see!
