Bud break is an important threshold each spring as the vines wake up from their winter slumber. Because the buds are very tender, freezing temperatures, even for 4–5 hours, will kill the buds and set the vines back for weeks.

Buds have started to swell on most grapevine varieties now with the hot weather predicted for this week, we expect bud break throughout our vineyards by the end of April.
We have finished mechanical pruning at Tassel Ridge Vineyard and will start mechanical pruning next at Maple Woods. We have also cleaned out the canes that were “harvested” during mechanical pruning at Meadowcreek Vineyards and we will work on cleanup at Tassel Ridge and then Maple Woods Vineyards.
