Most of our Marquette and all of the La Crescent are trellised on a VSP or vertical shoot positioning trellis system. The objective of this system is to assure that the fruit and most of the leaves are exposed to morning sun on the east side of the row and afternoon sun on the west side. The canes need to be tucked between the catch wires at the beginning of each season or they will grow every which way by July. We have about a two week window each year to get this work done before the vines have grown too much. We are focused now on the Marquette because the La Crescent is a little behind in its growth.
We will take advantage of windless days to spray fungicide and herbicide.
