We have four grape varieties to finish pruning at Tassel Ridge, Meadowcreek, and Maple Woods vineyards and we prune when the weather permits. Broken posts and unwanted mulberry trees at Meadowcreek will be much easier to work on while the soil is soft and wet and we’ll have part of our crew working on them. We expect to receive our 1,400 new grape vine cuttings next week. They will all be put in water for a few days and then planted right after Memorial Day.

The news media has carried several stories over the past few weeks about the possibility of a drought in the Upper Midwest this year. Today’s forecast is for a week of slow, soaking rain. If we can get a couple of more rain shower events, maybe we can avoid drought conditions here in Southeast Iowa.
